SCHOOL STRUCTURE, THEMES AND CURRICULUM

All the classes engage in similar bi-weekly themes to ensure a gradual developmental learning experience takes place from 6 months – 6 year olds.  This is also to ensure that the children are taught what is appropriate to their understanding and capability.  Also to facilitate effective monitoring of each child as well as to enhance the harmony within the school.  A monthly newsletter and calendar goes out to inform the parents of the events and themes introduced for the month.

Please read through the curriculum we imbue in the weekly program to ensure your child of a well rounded education.

LUNCHES AND SNACKS

We include meals into our daily routine.  A morning and afternoon snack and a full lunch is provided by the school.  The menu is posted on the notice board outside the kitchen for the parents to view.  Our fruit and vegetables are grown and picked from our own school gardens, or sometimes obtained from our local Fruit and Veggie Wholesalers. If your child has a special dietary need the parents are requested to supply the necessary food.

OUR FARM YARD AND FRUIT AND VEGETABLE GARDENS

We believe that teaching environmental awareness (looking after mother earth) is very important for young children in this day and age.   We have our own vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a farm yard for the children to enjoy. Outside areas are provided where the child can plant their own gardens and experience how plants grow.   Observing the chickens, duck and geese as well the fruit trees will introduce the children, in a natural way to the cycle of life.  The children visit the vegetable gardens and farm yard every week.   The awareness of the different seasons are brought to the children’s attention when they closely witness the changes that take place with the fruit trees.  When the fruit is ready the children have the experience of picking and tasting the fruit, such as apples, pears, bananas, apricots, mulberries, plumbs, peaches.  Macadamia nut tree just to mention in a few.

EXTRA MURAL CURRICULUM

All extra murals are structured into the daily program and therefore will not interfere with actual teaching time.

There is no obligation for children to attend extra murals. The extra mural curriculum is merely there to assist the teaching process. The costs of extra-mural activities are not included in the school fees and payment must be made directly to the extra mural teachers concerned.

Tangonastix is subsidized by the school and is compulsory for all the children to participate in this activity.  William the Tangonastix coach is a professional trainer who has obtained his springbok colour in gymnastics. He is a very popular trainer and also teaches Tangonasxtix to the private schools in Kyalami.

Computer lessons for the 4 – 5 and Grade R children are sponsored by our school.

COVID POLICY

As per the Health Department and Social Services the following Covid 19 Protocol will be implemented at the school

When the children return they will be required to wear face masks, or a shield.

ON ARRIVAL AND SICK CHILDREN

Sanitizer will be available at the entrance of the school to be used by the children and parents on arrival at school.

The child’s will be taken and if the skin temperature exceeds 37.3 the parent will be notified and asked to take the     child home or to consult a doctor.

If we see that a child is not well during the day we will phone the parents immediately to come and fetch the child.  The sick child will be isolated until the parents have collected the child.

WASHING OF HANDS AND BATHROOM HYGIENE

When the children wash their hand sanitizer will also be available for them to use as well.

The children are already well trained in washing hands and our staff are ready and willing to enforce the new Covid   19 rules and regulations.

The children will use their own hand towels which will be sent home weekly to be washed and to be returned on Monday morning.

HANDLING OF EQUIPMENT DURING ART ACTIVITIES

To make it easier for hygiene and safety purposes and to keep the children from sharing the art equipment each child will be allocated their own little work station with their own chair, table and chair bag and stationery, labelled either by colour coding or the child’s name.

The chair bag will contain their own crayons, scissors, paint brush, glue and whatever they need for art work on the day.

All this will be sanitized on a daily basis.

Their lockers will be separated a 1.5 metre apart and their water bottles will be kept in their lockers and sent home daily for washing.

For ring time the carpet will be marked with the children’s own personalized space coded with coloured shapes.

TOYS/ GAMES AND EDUCATIONAL EQUIPMENT

Sharing toys and educational equipment will be challenging however not all the toys and equipment will be accessible to the children all the time.

We will be rotating the toys everyday so that we can have them sanitized before they are used again.

This includes the outside toys as well.

SNACK AND LUNCH TIME

Lunch time hygienic measures of hand washing before and after a meal will continue as it always has been done.

Each child will sit at his/her own allocated chair and table, which is labelled with the child’s name.

There will be restricted areas in the school but these will be marked as no go zones. E.g. kitchen.

Hygiene measures as usual will be implemented with food preparation.

If the parents feel that they would like to bring their own food and snacks for their child you are welcome to do so.  Please inform the staff of such.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

The mattress covers and their bedding will also be labelled.  If a parent would like to provide your own mattress cover you are welcome to do so.

The children’s blankets will be sent home once a week for washing.

There will be the appropriate distance (1, 5 m) between each child at sleep/rest time.

SANITIZING THE SCHOOL

The whole school is cleaned and sanitized as normal with extra measures every day and is prepared for the children’s return for the next day.

Volunteers from the Scientology Monitory sanitize the school on a weekly basis as an outreach project.
